Who’s Who in Wine Law

by Lindsey A. Zahn on June 1, 2011

I came across an interesting link tonight from the Wine Industry Business Journal that discusses the Who’s Who in Wine Law. The article, which can be accessed at Who’s Who in Wine Law, surveys a group of North Bay attorneys with not only experience with but a strong appreciation for wine and the law. Although the article is from January of 2009, it still captures at least two dozen attorneys from the West Coast state; however, there are some key California players missing from other regions aside from Napa, Sonoma, and Marin—not to mention an East Coast varietal. Irrespective, I thought I would share it on the blog. The article Who’s Who in Wine Law stems from the longer list of 25 Legal Service Providers To The Wine Industry.

Lindsey,

You should be more careful in your citations. You’re right about other excellent attorneys in this field. But this was a compilation of lawyers in the North Bay (Napa Sonoma Marin) not California and not the greater Bay Area. The Press Democrat is published in Santa Rosa for Sonoma County readers.

Tom,

My apologies. Thank you for pointing that out; I will fix it in the article.

As an attorney who has represented wineries and vineyards for 20 years I am always confused about what “wine law” is. But there is no confusion about whether an attorney can make great wine. Try Bear Cave Cellars in Paso Robles. This is the only wine in California that is 100% attorney made. I am not talking about a rich attorney who hires others, I am talking a working class attorney/winemaker that can do it all. Take the dare, try the Bear.
